We just heard back from the US government about our request for permission to have increased participation by members in Iran. Although we did not get permission for everything we asked for, we do have some good news to report.
The government told us that members from Iran are permitted to participate in on-site algorithm competitions, and that TopCoder is allowed to pay for travel and hotel, and even award prizes in the US (if permitted by the member’s visa). As such, we will amend the TCO 2008 Algorithm Competition rules to state that Iranian members are eligible for the on-site round.
Unfortunately, we did not receive permission to award prizes from on-line competitions to members in Iran when they are located in Iran. That restriction in the competition rules will therefore remain unchanged.
We will take a look at the rules for the other restricted nations based on the response we now have about Iran.
Here's wishing members in Iran the best of luck in the arena! |
